Mark Levinson unveils new 5000 series integrated amplifiers

Introduced at the Munich High-End show back in May by parent company Harman Luxury Audio, Californian-based high-end specialist Mark Levinson showcased its new 5000 series of integrated amplifiers with the N°5802 and N°5805. Both models feature fully discrete, direct-coupled, Class AB amplifier channels and claim 2x 125W into 8ohm and 2x 250W into 4ohm. Priced at £6,999, the N°5802 features all-digital inputs with six digital ins including two optical, two coaxial, one AES/EBU port and one asynchronous USB for hi-res content – up to 32-bit/384kHz PCM and DSD to DSD128 – plus support for MQA files and aptX HD Bluetooth wireless.

The N°5805 (pictured) is fully loaded with three analogue line inputs (two on stereo RCAs and one on stereo XLRs), MM/MC phono input, plus digital inputs on asynchronous USB, two optical and a single coaxial input. The newly designed phono stage has front-panel selectable gain levels and infrasonic filters, while the rear panel offers capacitive and resistive-loading settings via dip switches.

Based around a common platform behind a 25mm-thick bead-blasted and black anodised front panel adorned by just two control knobs placed either side of the central inset glass display, the company says: “The Nº5805 and Nº5802 were created to deliver all of the performance and quality expected from Mark Levinson while implementing state-of-the-art features and efficiencies gained from decades of superlative audio engineering and technological advancements.” The N°5802 and N°5805 are available to buy now and you can find out more here.
