Quad upgrades Vena amp

Updated Vena II adds MM phono stage and improved DAC chipset to the mix

The Vena II integrated amplifier looks almost identical to its 2014 predecessor finished in Lancaster grey, save for the model number and updated input labelling to the front panel. Priced at £649, Quad’s entry-level integrated comes in the standard grey finish, but for an extra £100 is also available wrapped in a choice of three veneered or lacquered-wood finishes, including sapele mahogany, gloss black or white.

Beneath the casework, the Vena II adds a moving-magnet phono stage and the digital audio circuitry uses an ES9018K2M chipset from the Sabre32 Reference family that claims to benefit from ESS Technology’s 32-bit HyperStream architecture and Time Domain Jitter Eliminator to deliver ultra-low noise and high dynamic range.

Hi-res capability is boosted to handle 32-bit/384kHz PCM files and DSD up to DSD256 via the USB-A port, and also includes 2x optical, 1x coaxial digital inputs along with aptX Bluetooth support. Analogue inputs include 2x line-level, plus MM phono, while the Class AB power amp remains rated at 2x 45W RMS into 8ohm but adds a dedicated headphone amp circuit.

The Vena II can be purchased separately or packaged with Quad’s S-1 standmount (pictured) for £999 from dealerships. It's available to buy now and you can discover more about Vena II here.
