As hi-fi holy grails go, a successfully produced single-driver full-range loudspeaker is right up there on the list of must-haves for the more discerning audiophile. After all, an accomplished design should produce deep bass with the same effortless ease that it pumps out soaring treble highs while maintaining perfect phase from an impeccable point source. Of course, many have tried to remove the passive crossover from the audio chain only to find that weedy bass and lacklustre treble is the result. So you can only imagine our excitement when relative newcomer Markaudio-Sota unveiled its Cesti MB, claiming a reassuringly deep 40Hz all the way up to an ultrasonic 25kHz – and all from a gorgeously styled standmount with delicious curves and a choice of red, white or black finishes. Too good to be true?
