CD is regarded as the format of choice for many hi-fi fans, and the Canadian high-end audio specialist introduces its premium BCD-3 CD player offering a choice of balanced XLR or RCA analogue outputs as well as coaxial and AES digital outs. It’s Ethernet connectable for software upgrades and the transport/laser pickup assembly is paired with two AKM4490 32-bit/384kHz DACs synchronised by the company’s single master clock that claims to eliminate one of the primary causes of jitter. It features a Class A analogue output stage and independent analogue and digital power supplies. Designed to complement Bryston’s Cubed Series amplifiers, it’s available in black or silver and is distributed in the UK by PMC speakers.

Beyerdynamic’s new closed-design T 5 p headphone includes Tesla sound transducers for what it claims is a more spacious audio performance. Aside from hi-fisystem and headphone amplifier compatibility, the T 5 p’s electrical resistance of 32ohm also makes it the ideal partner, says the company, for portable audio devices including smartphones, tablets and hi-res music players. The cable is detachable and can be replaced with a longer version if required, while an option with a 4-pin XLR connectorfor balanced connections is also available. The headband and ear cups are made from artificial leather and the protein-coated surface promises a comfortable grip.

Cabasse has unveiled the latest addition to its Artis Series, the Murano, which is claimed to benefit from innovations initially developed for the reference La Sphère. These include the coaxial midrange tweeter and specific technologies that were incorporated in the design of the woofer. The honeycomb dome membrane, borrowed from La Sphère’s woofer, and the long-throw motor system are claimed to enable Murano's 17cm woofer to provide clean and deep low frequencies. Meanwhile, guided by a long voice coil in the 45mm deep air gap of a 4kg oversized motor, the driver is described as giving the bass the sort of purity and strength that is unexpected from such a small device.
